Day 1 - Appalachian Trail - GA
Our adventure on the Amicalola Falls Approach Trail to Springer Mountain covered 9.8 miles, starting with the challenging ascent up 620 stairs. Along the way, we encountered an otter that seemed to enjoy posing for photos.
We spotted turkeys, deer, countless squirrels, and a trillion chipmunks, which added to the wildlife experience.
After a demanding day of hiking, we set up car camping at Springer Mountain, where the atmosphere was incredible. It was a chilly night. That night, I had a curious little critter exploring outside my van—thankfully, nothing too large! Once I finally drifted off, it turned out to be a restful night.
The Magnolia Trees were smelly (1st photograph above). We missed the pretty blooms. That smell was probably due to rotting leaves? That was our guess.
