Ouachita Trail - Section 2 (2 of 4) - Pashubbe TH to Kiamichi River Crossing MM39 - January 2021

We drove down south and got an early start. It was chilly, but it didn’t take long to warm up as we made a steady pace up the mountain. The rocks on the trail had me daydreaming about a new pair of hiking boots with more cushion. The cold water in the river was sweet relief to my feet after this long hike. Loved every minute of this day.

I have set a goal for 2021 to section hike the entire 223 miles of the Ouachita Trail which spans between Oklahoma and Arkansas. My husband agreed to hike a couple of sections with me so I can familiarize myself with the sections before hiking with my friends. He easily agrees to a hike with me if he gets a shrimp dinner at The Barn in Pocola afterwards.
The logistics of this trail are challenging, but fun figuring out. My section hiking will involve Slackpacking which is staying in cabins and lodges at the end of the day. I am not against tent camping, but if I have options of nice dinner, hot shower and a nice warm bed at the end of the day it is not a hard decision on which to chose. The next morning, it is awesome to wake up bright and early refreshed with hot coffee, a good breakfast and get on the trail by daylight not to miss the best part of the day!

We decided to back track to find a better spot to cross.
